Osteopathy is a system of healthcare which is used to treat the whole body. Osteopaths are qualified and registered practitioners under a regulating body, The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Osteopaths use their hands to effect changes to various tissues of the body to encourage healing and repair. Osteopaths treat many conditions ranging from neck and back pain to other joints such as knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, feet and hands. Osteopathy can help to relieve headaches, joint problems, muscular aches and strains and to relieve pain due to arthritis, sporting injuries and during pregnancy. Osteopaths obtain a full case history and undertake a thorough structural examination which often includes a neurological examination. Treatment is very specific to each individual and is aimed at restoring the body to full health and function.
